Importance of Preventative Tire Maintenance
All parts of your vehicle are important, and each plays a key role in keeping you mobile. At the end of the day, it is the tires that take a lot of added abuse from constant contact with a variety of road surfaces. While the parts under the hood have that shield of protection, the tires are “on their own” against bumps, holes, road debris, and inclement weather. All these factors into the wear and tear tires experience whenever you are out and about.
There are five things to do to help tires remain an efficient component you can rely on.
- Tire Balancing – when you are in the market for new tires, they need to be balanced once they have been installed to ensure an even distribution of the vehicle’s weight to each tire.
- Tire Pressure – Check the owner’s manual to find the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) the tires should be at. Overinflated and under-inflated tires are prone to being damaged, leaving you with a flat.
- Tire Rotation – Like tire balancing, tire rotation is one of those crucial steps in tire maintenance. Tires wear down, which affects the traction between the tread and the highway. Rotating readjusts the worn sections with the parts of the tires that have not been affected.
- Tire Tread Depth – As tires wear down, you will see the bar patterns also wear down until what is left is the tread. This becomes a safety hazard as a bald cannot grip and connect with the surface of the road, as it should, which can lead to skidding.
- Wheel Alignment – With the many types of terrain a vehicle travels over, the bumps and jolts can take a toll on the vehicle’s suspension, so it is no longer aligned properly. A wheel alignment by a professional technician takes care of this by adjusting the parts, so everything works together smoothly and in sync.
Under the Hood and Down Below
Along with preventative maintenance of your vehicle’s tires, keeping other areas of your vehicle maintained with periodic service checks is equally important.
Three additional preventative services we take care of are battery replacement, oil changes, and brake repair.
- Batteries – Without a properly charged battery, your vehicle and electrical systems will not function. At our service center, we can help you choose a replacement and install it.
- Oil Changes – Oil protects the engine’s components and always needs to be at its best in quality. The recommended rule to follow is to have the oil and oil filter changed every five months or 5,000 miles.
- Brake Repair – Whether the brakes need a check-up, a repair, replacement of vital components that ensure the brakes will engage properly whenever you press the brake pedal.
